Younger Veterans Wanted For Bridlington Breakfast Club

Younger Veterans Wanted For Bridlington Breakfast Club

Published by Karen Liu at 6:01am 4th January 2020.

A breakfast club in Bridlington for Armed Forces, veterans, and their families has a New Year's resolution.

It meets each month on every first Saturday at 10am at Richie's Cafe Bar with the first for 2020 being today (Saturday 4th January).

Mike Rubery, who is the club's co-ordinator, said:

"The breakfast club's been doing quite well.

We've got to a stage where we've got at least 20-30 regulars who come along now; and then we've got people who just drop-in as and when they're available.

There's no fees to pay or anything like that; they just come along, buy their own coffee or tea, pull up a chair and have a chat with the people who are there.

The word 'veteran' it seems that people's minds automatically think of older veterans, people who have served 40-50 years ago.

We're not about that; we are encouraging the older people to come along, the older veterans, but we'd like to get some younger ones along as well; some that have may be been out of the Army or Navy for say 3-4 years who aren't back in community properly yet and they need a bit of support and a bit of help.

We can point them in the right direction."
