Whitby Coastguard Assists Rescue

Published by Jon Burke at 9:27am 3rd January 2020.

Whitby Coastguard has helped rescue someone with an injured leg.

The team was called by Humber Coastguard Operations Centre shortly after 2pm yesterday, in response to reports of a person who had fallen and sustained a leg injury on the beach in Sandsend.

Yorkshire Air Ambulance Helimed 98 and a Yorkshire Ambulance Service paramedic-crewed ambulance were also tasked to the incident.

When they arrived at the scene, coastguards conducted a brief search to locate the casualty and began casualty care. They had sustained a broken ankle.

Upon the arrival of the Air Ambulance, coastguards assisted in supporting the casualty's injury and transporting them to the awaiting land ambulance.

The casualty was taken by road to hospital for further treatment.

If you see anyone in difficulty on or near the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
