Filey's MP 75% Certain The Dualling Of A64 Will Go Ahead

Published by Karen Liu at 6:01am 2nd January 2020.

Filey's MP says he is 75% certain the dualling of part of the A64 will go ahead.

A decision will be made this month on which road schemes the government will pay for.

An application's been made for work to the Hopgrove Roundabout near York, and the dualling of the road heading towards Malton.

Kevin Hollinrake said:

"The worst jams do occur on that first section, but there's no doubt I want to see it all the way through to Malton; I'd also like to see villages like Rillington and Sherburn have bypasses.

I think most of the traffic does tend to disperse; lots of traffic goes to Malton, Pickering or to other villages by Malton, so I think there's no doubt you have to do these kind of schemes in stages."

Minister for roads, Baroness Vere, will make the decision this month and she was taken along the A64 in December.

Kevin added:

"I think we've made our case pretty well; we've been very persisent and we all know how bad it can get; we know that road carries twice the amount of traffic that's supposed to be carried for a single carriageway."

He has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke:

Why is the MP for filey so interested in roadworks that are 1hrs drive away from Filey.

Let's not forget that the proposal only creates a dual carriageway from Hopgrove to possibly the Malton By Pass.

The road between Malton and Filey/Scarborough will not be touched.

I think the Filey MP should be spending more time looking after Filey..
