Donations Needed To Help Scarborough Mountain Rescue Team

Published by Karen Liu at 7:01am 30th December 2019.

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team are looking to upgrade its equipment.

The charity doesn't receive any funding and are totally reliant on donations.

Ian Hugill, an Incident Controller in the team, said:

"The most critical thing at the moment, is that we're being required by Ofcom to move from what are called analog 'Very High Frequency' or VHF radios, to a similar digital system.

But we're looking at replacing some 60 handsets and in the region of 15 vehicle sets, which is a considerable expense for a team that does receive no direct funding.

We are totally reliant on our VHF communications to link our control vehicle to our mobile vehicles, our Land Rovers that deploy, and the hill parties.

Both to allow the hill party to report back on their location and any finds they make, but also to look after our team members to make sure they're safe."

Ian has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Karen Liu:

Anyone who wants to donate can do so by visiting:

You can also drop off any cheques or money at their base:-
