Drop-In To Brush Up Language Skills At Scarborough Library

Published by Karen Liu at 2:45pm 20th December 2019.

People who do not have English as their first language are invited to drop-in sessions at Scarborough library to improve language skills, build confidence and socialise.

County Councillor Greg White, Executive Member for Libraries, said:

“We hope this library venture will go a long way in ensuring people get the support they need to improve their English language skills and feel part of their community.

By mirroring frequent situations such as visiting a shop to booking a doctor’s appointment, we hope to support people to improve English language skills which are integral to everyday life.

The sessions are as much about socialising as they are learning. During every session there will be coffee, cake and a chance to get to know people on your doorstep.”

The Saturday sessions, beginning on 11th January from 1pm to 2.30pm, will be free and open to anybody who wishes to gain new skills in conversational English.

Learners will be able to make use of the library’s new range of Oxford Bookworms, which include classic and modern fiction, non-fiction and plays in seven graded language stages.

Refreshments will be provided and children are welcome.
