Plans For Investment And Better Outcomes For Filey

Plans For Investment And Better Outcomes For Filey

Published by Karen Liu at 4:28pm 19th December 2019.

Scarborough Borough Council is joining forces with Filey Town Council in an exciting new partnership to build better outcomes and investment in the Filey area.

The borough and town councils will work together to create a Local Area Action Plan for Filey with the needs of the local community very much at its heart.

The plan will look to bring together the joint efforts and resources of both councils, along with the passion, enthusiasm and good work of the community in Filey, to deliver an even better place to live, work and play.

Cllr Steve Siddons, Leader of Scarborough Borough Council said:

“I am very pleased to be in a position to announce the start of a much closer working relationship with Filey Town Council and I am excited to work to develop a clear plan of action for meaningful investment in the town.

At the heart of the plan will be making sure we ‘get the basics right’ and a quick win to secure the foundations of this new partnership will be to deliver a joint week of action and spring clean where we will spruce up the area ready for the season.

We will be working with Filey Town Council, as a team, to engage with community groups to look at the areas where we need to give some love and attention to our wonderful town to show off why it is one of the jewels in the crown of the Yorkshire Coast.”

Cllr Jacqui Houlden-Banks, Filey Town Mayor, added:

“Filey Town Council is delighted to be working with Scarborough Borough Council on the proposed Local Area Action Plan for Filey.

Filey Town Council has worked hard to build a strong working relationship with Scarborough Borough Council to ensure the voice of Filey is represented.”

Why is this news.

As a Filey resident I pay my rates to SBC.

I also pay to Filey Town Council.

This supposedly new scheme should not need implementing.

It's something that Filey Town Council and SBC should have been doing for years.

Questions need to be asked to both sets of councillors as to what they have actually been doing over the past years.

The last big investment in Filey was a total resurfacing and marking out of Station Ave car park and a complete refurbishment of the bus station toilets.

And guess who paid for all that... TESCO..

As a regular visitor might point out that all year round toilet facilities are essential in particular dog owners that can not access cafes. Also closing the toilets at 6pm in the summer is no good down on the front.

Councillor siddons is suddenly announcing all these wonderful schemes but there is actually no content, its all about talking and consulting!!! What will probably happen is more housing estates thrown up and no extra facilities for those who live here.
