100 Tiny Santas Run a Merry Mile in Scarborough

Published by Matthew Pells at 4:13pm 19th December 2019.

100 pupils from Thomas Hinderwell Primary Academy took part in a fundraising run with a festive twist today.

The school has organised a Santa Run – where pupils ran a ‘merry mile’ while wearing Santa costumes.

In all, pupils in 34 schools across the David Ross Education Trust (DRET) raised over £30,000, which will go towards funding enrichment programmes and activities, such as sports clubs, music festivals and instrument lessons.

Teachers and staff also took part in the run, with some staff members wearing Santa hats while other ran in a full Santa suit.

Pupils across the age groups took part, with pupils from Year 4 through to Year 6 involved with the run.

Rowena Hackwood, Chief Executive Officer, David Ross Education Trust, said:

“I am delighted that so many of our pupils signed up for the Santa Run and I am so proud of them! They have worked so hard to raise the money they needed and it’s wonderful to see how much money our fantastic pupils have raised across the trust.

The money raised will be invaluable in funding enrichment programmes across the trust. At DRET we are focused on providing a world-class education that broadens our pupils’ horizons. Our enrichment programme is second to none in the state sector, providing wonderful opportunities for pupils to explore new things, develop their passions and discover their talents. The run is a fantastic way to support this work, and a fabulously festive way to mark the end of term!”
