Horse Knocked Down On Road In Stainsacre

There are reports that a horse has been knocked down on the A171 Whitby to Scarborough Road.

It is near to the Summerfield Garage in Stainsacre.

Witnesses say there were two unattended horses which galloped onto the main road, resulting in one being hit by a car.

There could be long delays in the area, as reports say traffic is moving slowly and locals are diverting drivers to use the loop around Hawsker Church.

One police officer is at the scene, but there is no official police diversion.

The horse's owner, Meg Fletcher, has written on facebook:

"Hi everybody. Thank you so much to everybody who stopped and helped with my angel. She is back home and getting stitched up as we speak."
