Scarborough UTC Students Put World Championship Car on Show

Published by Matthew Pells at 6:01am 12th December 2019.

A Formula 1 Car built by students from Scarborough UTC will be on show in the town today.

Six students from the college raced the one twentieth scale car in the F1 school world championships in Abu Dhabi last month.

This afternoon they will be showing it off in the Brunswick Centre.

Team Captain Connor Wilcox tells us more about the car.

Reanne Adnitt is the team's Enterprise Manager  - Reanne says they performed well at the finals.

Team member Hana Hinton became one of just ten students from around the world to be given a place on the Unilever Williams Engineering Academy (UWEA) for 2019. The collaboration with the Williams F1 team, will see the Engineering Academy continue to mentor students from around the world as they aim to secure a career within Engineering.

Speaking about this year’s selection process Nicola Salter, Group HR Director at Williams, said:

“We have been thoroughly impressed by the calibre of students that have taken part in the assessment centre for the Unilever Williams Engineering Academy. All students were of an extremely high calibre and impressed us with their enthusiasm which has made the selection process even more difficult. We look forward to welcoming the successful students into the academy and working with them throughout the programme.”

You can see the students car at the Brunswick centre this afternoon between 2pm and 8pm where there will be chance to test your reaction times against those set by the teams drivers, Connor explains how that works
