New Members Wanted For Scarborough Mountain Rescue Team

Published by Karen Liu at 6:01am 5th December 2019.

Scarborough and Ryedale Mountain Rescue Team is looking for new members.

It is wanting to recruit six people to join them in 2020 on an on-call basis.

Ian Hugill, who is an Incident Controller within the team, said:

"We attend the traditional slips, trips and falls, people who've got ankle or lower leg injuries.

There's mountain bikers who've injured themselves or people who are lost.

But increasingly, we're searching for people with mental health issues either alzheimer's or dementia or those who are intent to go out and self harm."

Ian added:

"We'd rather train people up in the skills as we see the need.

We would expect somebody to be reasonably fit and able, to have some outdoor experience ideally understand about maps and compasses and to have some a set of waterproofs and boots.

But otherwise, we'll train them in everything they need."

Anyone interested can go to their base in Snainton from 7.30pm to find out more.

The address is: Unit 1b, 1c Barker's Ln, Industrial Estate, Snainton, Scarborough YO13 9BG.
