Scarborough Win El Coastico

Scarborough Win El Coastico

Published by Yorkshire Coast Radio News at 10:40am 1st December 2019.

The battle of the Yorkshire Coast- dubbed El Coastico- saw Scarborough Athletic beat Whitby Town, 2-1, at the Flamingo Land Stadium, on Saturday.

It was sweet revenge for Boro, who lost out 2-0, at Whitby, in the first meeting of the sides, this season, back in September.

New Boro boss Darren Kelly was taking the reins for the first time, he dedicated the victory to the Seadogs' supporters and felt his players dominated:

Whitby Town manager Chris Hardy felt missed chances badly cost his side:

After Danny Rowe and Adam Gell were denied by Scarborough keeper Tommy Taylor and man of the match Isaac Assenso, Athletic's James Walshaw broke the deadlock on 31 minutes. Whitby were indebted to goalkeeper Shane Bland, who produced a string of stunning saves, but Boro doubled their advantage, three minutes into the second half, through Connor Thomson.

Hardy introduced striker Connor Bell and the ex-Inverness marksman reduced the arrears, within moments, to make for a nervy ending for the hosts. They hung on for just their second home league win of the season, which takes the two teams level on points in the BetVictor NPL Premier Division. Over 1,300 people watched the game.

Yorkshire Coast Radio had commentary from both Whitby and Scarborough perspectives, on Yorkshire Coast Radio Extra. Here's how the Boro team, Ant Taylor and Charlie Hopper, saw it:
