Cayton Bell Tower Work Unlikely to Finish This Week

Work to dismantle the bell tower at Cayton's Jubilee hall looks set to continue into next week.

Structural problems with the tower were discovered earlier this week and Mill lane in Cayton remains closed due to the risk of the tower collapsing on to the carriageway.

Roberta Swiers is chair of the memorial Hall committee and met with engineers on Thursday.

The closure of Mill Lane also looks likely to remain in place until the work is completed. Additional signage is being put in place to warn drivers of the closure which is resulting in long diversions.

Drivers are being asked not to ignore the closure signs and to respect the normal rules of the road.

Roberta says in one half hour period on Thursday morning eight cars were seen driving the wrong way down one way streets in Cayton, she's concerned about the danger to children making their way to and from the school.
