Flood Alert After Pumping Station Failure

Published by Matthew Pells at 11:55am 20th November 2019. (Updated at 12:38pm 20th November 2019)

A flood alert has been issued for parts of Seamer, Staxton, Irton, Ayton and Muston after a technical failure at a pumping station.

The Environment Agency have issued a Flood Alert for the Upper River Derwent.

They say flooding is possible for: The Upper Derwent and Scarborough areas, including land around The Sea Cut at Scalby, Throxenby Beck, Old Malton, and Priorpot Beck in Norton.

This alert is in force due to what are described as "operational issues" at Mill Beck Pumping Station in Norton.

The agency say they have operational staff on site inspecting the pumping station and have a contingency plan in operation. They are operating additional pumps on site and say they will need to maintain local road closures to facilitate this.  Incident response staff are closely monitoring the situation in the incident room.
