Public Asked About Flamborough Pre-School Move

Published by Jon Burke at 1:57pm 15th November 2019. (Updated at 1:58pm 15th November 2019)

Flamborough Pre-School is asking for views from the public, as it considers relocating.

Its committee says it needs to relocate to a new setting to meet the growing needs of its local community.

Over the last year, the pre-school committee and staff have been developing a relocation project.

The project is at a crucial stage and now the Preschool would love to know the community’s thoughts on the project.

To facilitate this, they are holding a consultation event on Saturday 16th November at the Village hall in Flamborough between 10am and 12 noon.

Secretary of the Pre-school, Danni Hemingway, said:

“At the event, we plan to gather information about what exactly parents and families would like to see in the finished development. We would also like to gather the wider community’s thoughts on our plans.

We hope the local community will come so we can inform them of the basics principles but we need the community to share their views and supply further ideas that can build on our project so we deliver a setting that meets the needs of all concerned.

There will be a children’s activity corner, refreshments, and everyone who attends will receive entry into the free prize draw."

Currently the Pre-school is located at the WI hall, having moved there in 2015, the demand since 2015 for childcare has increased due to Government funding policies. As a result the Pre-school numbers have increased rapidly.

Manager, Diane Villani, commented:

“At the end of the school year in July 2019, we had 34 children on roll, the numbers for the school year ending July 2020 are predicted to be heading towards the high 30s. Currently we can only provide a maximum of 21 children per session.”

Part of the relocation project undertaken so far is to identity a possible new site for a setting. Over recent months it has been identified that to locate a new setting within the grounds of the Flamborough Primary School is a real possibility.

Chairperson, Will Traves, said:

“Its been an interesting but rewarding few months identifying a site and then working with all the relevant bodies to see if the site would be the perfect setting for all involved. So far, we feel we are on the right track and plans for the development are underway but we still have lots of work to do. I know we won’t be able to achieve all our goals unless we can gain the support and the involvement of the local community.”

It is believed that relocating to its own building will also open up a host of exciting opportunities to grow the Pre-School.

Will added:

“We plan to offer full day care for 2-5 year old’s, an after school club for the Primary School children and Holiday club for children 2 and over. In addition to this, within the building will be a ‘family zone’ and this is an area of growth we would love to engage with the community over. I hope we will see lots of people from the local community take this opportunity to get involved.”

As an immediate neighbour to the new proposed site of the Flamborough Pre School it would have been appropriate for both me and my neighbours to have been informed prior to a Public meeting held at the Village Hall for our views as clearly we are the ones who will be directly affected on a daily basis.
I/we look forward to more detailed information on this Proposal as a matter of courtesy.
