England Goal for Whitby's Beth Mead

England's women footballers have finished 2019 with victory which included a goal from former Whitby junior Beth Mead.

The  lionesses won their friendly in the Czech Republic 3-2 last night - thanks to an equaliser from Beth and a late deflected goal from Leah Williamson.

National team boss Phil Neville is under some pressure following their poor run of form since reaching this summer's World Cup semi-finals.

Arsenal Striker Beth Mead became an ambassador for Whitby Town Football Club earlier in the summer.

Beth, who is from Hinderwell, just north of Whitby, went to junior football training in Whitby before being picked up by Middlesbrough's School of Excellence.

She played for Sunderland before moving to Super League side Arsenal and appearing in this summer's World Cup for England where the lionesses reached the semi-finals before losing 2-1 to eventual winners, the USA.

Last night's victory was just their second win in eight games.
