Scarborough branch of Operation Christmas Child has started.

It's based on Sandside and will be dispatching thousands of shoeboxes to underprivileged children around the world.

The charity's looking for volunteers to help pack the boxes, as well as donate items.

Acting Co-Ordinator for Scarborough, Robert Garner, said:

"Scarborough has been really, really good. Last year, we did over 5,000 shoeboxes.

The response form the local community's brilliant. We have lots of donations and people still keep coming in and they want to be part of it, so the response is very good.

We just want people to come along and support us - come along and see what we're doing and be part of the process."

In terms of donations, they always want a cuddly toy, to be treasured and stationery, soaps (but no toothpaste or sweets this year), knitted items like hats, gloves and scarves and toys or anything that the kids can keep.

You can drop into 44 Sandside, if you want to help out, or make a donation.
