Whitby Fundraiser for WetWheels

Whitby Fundraiser for WetWheels

Published by Matthew Pells at 6:01am 10th November 2019.

Wet Wheels, the local charity that provides sea trips for disabled people on a specially adapted boat says it want's to get more local youngsters out on the sea in 2020.

The charity is holding a fundraising gala in Whitby next month

Chairman Peter Richardson says demand for the service is increasing.

Wet Wheels Yorkshire launched in 2018, they run sea going trips from Scarborough on a specially adapted boat.

Peter says the fund raiser is to allow them to take more children on trips next summer.

The Wetwheels Yorkshire Christmas Gala will take place on Saturday 14th December 2019 at the Star Inn The Harbour, Whitby and will feature superb food, an amazing charity auction and special guests.

Andrew Pern's celebrated Whitby restaurant hosted the Wetwheels Yorkshire Royal Naming ceremony in August 2018 when HRH The Princes Royal, the Wetwheels Foundation's sole patron, visited Whitby to celebrate the launch of the fifth, and newest, boat in the Wetwheels fleet.

Since then, Wetwheels Yorkshire has taken over 2,500 people onto the water including families from children's hospices and almost fifty other, local disability organisations.

The evening will include an inspiring talk by Wetwheels founder, Geoff Holt MBE, DL who is the first disabled yachtsman to sail solo around the British Isles as well as the first to cross the Atlantic.

Geoff's inspiring story will give the background to the Wetwheels mission to enable people with a whole range of disabilities, including those of a profound and complex nature, to access the sea.

All money raised will go to the Wetwheels Foundation (UK Charity 1148600) to support the work of Wetwheels Yorkshire. Ticket information is available from Peter by emailing bookings@wetwheelsyorkshire.com or from the WetWheels website.
