Fuel Poverty Awareness To Be Held In Scarborough

Fuel Poverty Awareness To Be Held In Scarborough

Published by Karen Liu at 5:47pm 7th November 2019.

Scarborough Borough Council is holding a drop in event later this month to provide advice and information to residents that will help keep them warm and well in their homes this winter.

On Friday 29 November, which is National Fuel Poverty Awareness Day, the authority will raise awareness of some of the issues faced by those living in cold homes. The event will be held at the Town Hall in Scarborough between 9.30am and 11.30am.

Fuel poverty remains an issue for the borough, especially within much of the private rented housing stock.

A combination of lower than average household income, combined with rising fuel costs and poorly insulated homes means that many residents find it difficult to keep warm, which can impact on their health and well-being.

Funding is available to help residents benefit from a range of new energy efficiency initiatives to make their homes warmer and cheaper to heat and the council aims to ensure householders can access this help.

Residents can also receive free advice to ensure they are on the best energy tariff.

Andrew Rowe, Scarborough Borough Council Housing Manager, said:

We are very excited to be able to support these new initiatives providing measures such as wall insulation, loft insulation, room in roof insulation and in some cases replacement boilers or new heating systems, to our residents’ homes.

We believe this could help many households in the borough to make their homes warmer and reduce their heating bills. For many residents, the energy efficiency measures will be free.”

Funding is available to homeowners and tenants of private landlords, subject to qualifying criteria.

Anyone unable to attend the drop in event and would like to find out more about the funding and whether their or their tenants qualify, should call 01723 232527 or visit scarborough.gov.uk/white-rose-home-improvement-agency
