Chris Gascoyne Looking Forward To Scarborough Visit

Chris Gascoyne Looking Forward To Scarborough Visit

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 10:20am 7th November 2019.

Coronation Street actor Chris Gascoyne has told Paddy In The Morning that he's really looking forward to visiting Scarborough next week.

The star, who's played Peter Barlow in the soap for over 20 years, will be helping to turn on the Christmas lights on Thursday 14th November.

He used to visit the town for family holidays and is looking forward to coming back, although he told Paddy that Christmas light switch on events haven't always gone to plan:

"I did a really big one in Oxford years ago. Just before I pressed the button, on the countdown when I got to 4, the guy at the side said it's not going to work. I pressed it and nothing! So I just got my lighter out and waved it. I didn't know what else to do. I'll bring a pocket full just in case".

Chris also told Paddy how he's been asked to take part in Reality TV shows, but has said no to all of them, mostly because of the type of shows they were:

"The best one that I had was Celebrity Shark Bait. They put you down in a perspex cage with Great White Sharks. I was like 'no you're alright'. And the other one was Celebrity SAS. They asked me 'are you tough enough' and I was like no I'm not".

He also said he watched the recent Scarborough sitcom and the drone shots made him want to come back.

And although he is really looking forward to turning on the lights, he says Christmas feels like it's been and gone already, thanks to filming months in advance on Corrie:

"We're 2 months ahead. You genuinely forget where you are. Christmas has been and gone in Coronation Street. We've done New Year. And yet in the shops it's all just starting now. Christmas feelings like it lasts a really long time. I don't want to look at another piece of turkey again".

The Christmas light switch on event happens next Thursday 14th November in Scarborough Town Centre. Joining Chris will be Twinnie Lee Moore.
