Election Could Delay Whitby Mine Petition Response

The MP for Whitby says the government might not have time to respond to a petition about the potash mine.

More than 11 thousand signatures were sent after the Government's refusal to insure a loan for Sirius Minerals.

But Parliament dissolves tomorrow ahead of the election - meaning it won't be able to act after that.

Robert Goodwill says he's spoke to the treasury about the situation..

Mr. Goodwill says since the decision not to back the loan there have been a number of other examples of situations where the government has not felt it right to put money into private companies.

Labour’s candidate for Scarborough and Whitby, Hugo Fearnley met with management of Sirius Minerals last month.

He thinks the project should get Government support.

i thought labour did not believe in backing private business?? Then again is it election time
