Dementia Forward Looking For More Whitby Volunteers

Dementia Forward Looking For More Whitby Volunteers

Published by Karen Liu at 6:01am 1st November 2019.

Dementia Forward is looking for more help in Whitby.

It is for its well-being cafe which is based at Ruswarp Village Hall.

There will be food and activities for those with dementia and their family and friends.

Debby Lennox, Volunteer Coordinator at Dementia Forward, said:

"There's no experience required so we do have lots of people who had experience and want to give something back, that do come and volunteer.

We also have people who just want to find out more about it and we do an induction, so we offer some training about dementia awareness.

It's mainly just about caring for people and having an empathy, it's all we ask.

Some people like to be in the kitchen and if they're not chatters, they can be in the kitchen and do the teas and coffees, that type of thing.

Other people might not be a dab hand in the kitchen, but they can sit down and talk to people.

All skills are really important to us; chatters are great and people that like to do activities, if you enjoy jigsaws that's great too."

The wellbeing cafe will be open weekly on a Friday - starting today - from 1pm to 3pm.

There is also one in Scarborough at St. Andrew's Church on Ramshill.

Anyone who wants to be a volunteer in Whitby, or in Scarborough, can ring 03300 578592, email info@dementiaforward.org.uk, or visit https://www.dementiaforward.org.uk/
