New Scarborough Train Service Delayed

New Scarborough Train Service Delayed

Published by Jon Burke at 11:50am 30th October 2019. (Updated at 11:55am 30th October 2019)

The introduction of a new train service, running between Scarborough and York, has been delayed.

Northern was set to start services on the route, via Malton, in December.

This would mean there would be two trains running each hour, rather than just the hourly service from TransPennine Express.

The new service has been postponed till May 2020, with Northern blaming the company which manufactures its trains

A Northern spokesperson said:

“As a result of further delays in the delivery across our network of new trains from manufacturer CAF, we have had to delay the introduction of the new service between Scarborough and York to May 2020.”

CAF UK Director, Richard Garner, said:

“CAF regrets the delay in delivering the next batch of trains to Northern but we are working hard to catch up. We continue to work closely with Northern to bring these new trains into passenger service as soon as possible”.

However Northern says there's good news for its passengers in Whitby.

From Monday 16/12/19, there will be an additional EARLY (0845h) and an additional LATE (2221h) service from Whitby to Middlesbrough.

More excuses eh? Surely it won't be just a shuttle service york-boro in old trains when 30 mins later a brand new TPE train is available. Extend the york
-blackpool service to Boro as it used to be and they might do better, and in new trains.
