More People Now 'Active' In North Yorkshire

More people are now 'active' in North Yorkshire, according to the latest results from Sport England's Active Lives research.

It carried out the study from May 2018 to May 2019.

It found 67% of the county are doing 150 minutes or more of physical activity per week.

In turn it shows there is a 3% drop in those classed as inactive.

In the East Riding, 60.2% are doing 150 minutes or more of physical activity per week.

Scarborough has 64%.

George Cull, from North Yorkshire Sport, said:

"For us, it's about people finding that activity that they enjoy, or that they get the benefits from.

We see a lot stuff like social running groups where actually people are going to that, and they may hate the running bit, but actually they form friendships, bonds and do something productive.

We do need to highlight that we've still got 1 in 5 of our adult population that are doing between 0-29 minutes a week, which is that kind of 'inactive' bracket, so not doing any form of physical activity or very limited."
