Scarborough Lifeboat Crew Complete Blackpool Run

Published by Matthew Pells at 8:55am 19th October 2019.

Twelve members of the Scarborough Lifeboat crew have completed a 24 hour relay run from Scarborough to Blackpool.

The 140 mile run began at 7am on Friday morning at the lifeboat house in Scarborough. The final leg of the relay was completed at Blackpool Lifeboat station just before 7am this morning.

The relay run was to raise funds for the charity in both locations, but mainly for Scarborough.

The team ran in relays through the night to complete the challenge.

As well as raising money for the RNLI, the event was also to raise awareness of the Andrew McGeown Legacy Fund.

John Senior from Scarborough RNLI said:

"We're coming up to five years since Andrew McGeown died in Feburary very tragically in the South Bay.

We now have three members of his family involved in Scarborough Lifeboat Station and Peter McGeown, his brother, is leading off on this.

So it's very much building on the work that the McGeown family are doing with the Swim Trust and raising that profile, because it's important work and it is putting out the message of sea safety."
