Yorkshire Coast Residents Warned About Burglaries

Published by Karen Liu at 7:01am 12th October 2019.

Yorkshire Coast residents are being warned about burglaries.

The message comes from the Neighbourhood Watch Assocation, which says several people in East Yorkshire have had their homes broken into recently while they have been on holiday.

It said:

"The method of entry has been that rear doors are being smashed to gain entry and an untidy search carried out with jewellery being stolen.

If you are going away from home, then consider some crime prevention measures such as ensuring valuables are hidden out of sight and somewhere secure.

Asking a friend/neighbour you know and trust to house sit or conduct regular visits to check on your property for you.

A dog, security lights, internal lights on time switches and the use of an LED fake TV simulator all help with crime prevention.

Also, with several churches in East Yorkshire and at least two in North Yorkshire having been the target of thieves stealing valuable lead from the roofs of these churches, please encourage everyone to remain extremely vigilant.

Report any workmen to the police via 101 or 999 as appropriate who are seen working on church roofs - even in daylight, and wearing hi-vis attire, as they may not be bona fide contractors but thieves."
