Peter Wilkinson, Chairman of Scarborough Business Ambassadors, said:

"There are about 34 exhibitors and they pay to be there, but they're not there to sell their products; they're there to show and showcase engineering opportunities for young people.

The magic day for me has always been the Thursday, in that those are the primary school children starting at five years old, we have a thousand of them coming through in one day.

Those are the young minds we need to stimulate for tomorrow's engineering."

He added that more females are entering the industry:

"We've had several young ladies who want to enter apprenticeships and Girl Power, their young engineer who's a lady engineer, became apprentice of the year in the UK.

So it shows you that there's a migration towards young ladies entering engineering because it's not about all your rags and spanners, it's about robotics and control systems and that's really where the young minds of today are best placed."

The event was founded in 2010 by The Scarborough Business Ambassadors with huge support from Unison Ltd, Scarborough Borough Council and NYBEP Ltd, it was and is driven by the need to promote careers in engineering and the local progression routes available to improve recruitment in the sector.
