Junior Road Safety Officers on Yorkshire Coast

Published by Jon Burke at 6:56am 7th October 2019.

Primary schools in Scarborough borough are being asked if they want to join in the Junior Road Safety Officer Scheme.

It started last week, is co-ordinated by officers from North Yorkshire County Council and runs till the end of the Summer.

Each school that takes part has two Year 5s, who're supported by Road Safety Officers from the council.

They act as champions for the entire school

The council's Road Safety Team Leader, Fiona Ancell, said:

"Although we give guidance on what they might want to cover, like wearing helmets when they cycle or school gate parking issues, they can tailor this programme to issues that are local for them at their school.

We offer it to any primary school in the county and the programme is going to run through until the end of the Summer term."
