Pet Blessing Service in Bridlington

Pet Blessing Service in Bridlington

Published by Jon Burke at 8:01am 6th October 2019.

Today is a special day for pets in Bridlington.

The 'All Creatures Great and Small Pet Blessing Service' takes place at the Priory Church at 3pm.

The event is held each year on the first Sunday in October, in recognition of Patron Saint of Animals, Francis of Assissi.

Reverend Matthew Pollard is conducting it and said:

"Perhaps dogs, perhaps cats, but perhaps ferrets or rabbits, or chickens - what happens at the Service is that there's a Thanksgiving for the pets and some reflection upon our responsibility - not just as owners of pets, but as a society - to look after the welfare of animals.

Then there's an invitation to people to bring their pets forward and each pet will be individually blessed".

Matthew has been speaking to Yorkshire Coast Radio's Jon Burke..

Those who don't own a pet are also welcome and a collection will be divided by the church and the Bridlington branch of the RSPCA.
