More Volunteers Wanted For Scarborough Gardens Group

Published by Karen Liu at 12:13pm 4th October 2019. (Updated at 11:44am 10th October 2019)

More volunteers are wanted to help spruce up Valley Gardens in Scarborough.

The community group was set up earlier this year to improve the gardens and to learn more about its history.

Since then, they have done some practical work like planting shrubs.

Anyone interested in joining the group is asked to go the Conference Room at Woodend on Thursday (10th October) at 7pm.

It will be their first Annual General Meeting too with tea and biscuits.

There will be a talk on the history of the parks and gardens in Scarborough by Roger Burnett.

Felicity Stephenson, Acting Chairman of The Friends of Valley Gardens, said:

"We are having our first AGM to formalise the group's existence and to pass a formal constitution, because obviously if we're applying for grants, we need to have that in place.

People who give reasonable grants are not going to give us money unless we have an absolutely fixed structure and a properly elected committee."

She is also looking for more volunteers:

"We've had a brilliant group of about 12 or 15 people who've turned out for everything in all weathers and they've been marvellous.

But I'd like to see that extend because there's so much more we could do.

I'd like to see perhaps groups with disabilities involved, brownies groups, cubs groups and youth groups involved in working on the gardens."

Anyone who wants to contact the group should email
