Bridlington To Welcome Sheffield Residents

Bridlington To Welcome Sheffield Residents

Bridlington is welcoming Sheffield residents this weekend.

It is part of a Yorkshire Coast Business Improvement District project called 'Brid Bus'.

The coach leaves the city today (Friday 4th October) before returning on Sunday.

It aims to extend the season for Bridlington's tourism businesses.

The town's BID Director, Dean Bullen, said:

"The idea actually came from a Bridlington business.

We were speaking to them and they were telling us about Driffield day, which is a day that traditionally people of Driffield get on coaches and come over to Bridlington for the day.

It kind of led to the idea of how could we encourage a Sheffield day, a Doncaster day, a York day, and thinking about it more, we said 'why just a day? What about a weekend?'.

This is a pilot, so if it is successful and it goes to a full project, which will be next year now, then I definitely think it could make a big difference.

But certainly 48 people coming to Bridlington out of season on a weekend when normally they wouldn't be doing, that alone I think is more than worth the pilot that we're putting on."

The free coach travel was only eligible to the first 48 people who applied at https://www.bridbus.co.uk.

In order to have confirmed their place on the bus, they had to prove they've booked accommodation in Bridlington for two nights.

The bus arrives in Brid at 8.00pm Friday evening.
Saturday can be spent in Bridlington.
The bus leaves at 4.00pm Sunday, and as most of the town is closed on a Sunday it is a case of killing time.

What a total waste of time and money.

So a couple have to pay for 2 nights B&B each in order to spend a full day in Bridlington...
