Flood Alert And Warning For Yorkshire Coast

Flood Alert And Warning For Yorkshire Coast

Published by Karen Liu at 6:46am 30th September 2019.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert and a flood warning for parts of the Yorkshire Coast.

The warning is for Bridlington until 9.30am today (Monday 30th September).

The Agency said:

"We expect overtopping to affect sea front areas as a result of high spring tides.

Consequently, flooding of property, roads and land is possible.

Areas most at risk are properties at South Pier."

It has also issued a flood alert from Whitby to Filey until 9.30am today:

"Overtopping of roads and low-lying coastal areas is possible as a result of high spring tides.

Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible.

Flooding is most likely at high tide, however conditions may apply two to four hours either side of the high tide.  Areas most at risk are low lying land and roads."

The Environment Agency added:

Coastal conditions are expected to continue into next week and we might reissue this Alert on Monday for further high tides.

We are closely monitoring the situation.  Our incident response staff are checking defences and will operate defences as required.

Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads and coastal roads, which may be flooded.
