Biggest Ever McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k Underway in Scarborough

A record number of competitors are in Scarborough for a very wet 11th McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k.

Paddy has been out meeting competitors:

Spaces for the popular annual event sold out in under three hours this year and record numbers are running from all over the country.

Race Director, Melanie Padgham, thinks the growth of the event can only be good for the town.

The main road race is followed by 2.5k and 1.6k Family Fun Runs, both of which are perfect for children and anyone wanting to run the shore on a smaller scale. Entry to either Fun Run is only £1.

With so many people expected for the event the Seamer Road park and ride is open to help with parking.

The organisers are hoping to make the race plastic free to help reduce litter. Melanie Padgham explains the steps they have taken.

McCain sponsors the event as part of its commitment to encouraging healthy, active lifestyles in the community.

Jennifer Domett from McCain said:

“We’re really proud to have supported the McCain Yorkshire Coast 10k for the past 11 years – and this year is a special one for McCain as it’s our 50th Anniversary in Scarborough.

My favourite thing about the event is how inclusive it is – there really are no barriers. We have toddlers running the Family Fun Runs and people in their 80s completing the 10k. There are seasoned runners trying to achieve a personal best, work teams running for charity and groups of friends who’ve set this as their first running challenge. It’s everything a community event should be.

This is a fantastic and very popular UK-wide running event, which has grown in statue each year. In fact, the 10k race has been recognised in the national Running Awards.
