There is going to be advice on how to prevent falls in Bridlington next week.

Bridlington Partnership Board are hosting a 'Falls Prevention' open day to members of the public looking to gain more confidence, improve their mobility and gain advice from local Bridlington based services and groups.

The event is free to attend and takes place on Wednesday 25th September from 12pm-4pm at Bridlington Central Library.

The event date is during Falls Awareness Week and highlights the serious issue of falls causing serious harm to people,.

Ryan Nicholls, Project Officer for the Humber NHS Health Trainer Service, explains who is most at risk of falls:

The NHS says falls are the leading cause of fatal injury and the most common cause of nonfatal trauma-related hospital admissions among older adults.

They result in more than 2.8 million injuries treated in emergency departments, including over 800,000 hospitalizations and more than 27,000 deaths each year.

Natalie Belt, Bridlington Partnership Board Chair and Service Manager for Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust said:

“We are hoping that this event will provide those who may be worried about falling or those who have had a fall or slip/trip, or stumbled in the past to come and seek advice and guidance on how to avoid and prevent falls from happening.

We have a team of health professionals on hand to provide advice and guidance, as well as a wide range of social interventions that are available locally in the Bridlington area that can help. Come along and seek our help and guidance”.

Healthtrainers are campaigning to raise awareness and to provide support to those I need so that they can reduce, avoid and prevent falls themselves.

For further information on the event please call the Humber NHS Healthtrainer team on 0800 9177752.
