Published by Karen Liu at 10:34am 17th September 2019.

Whitby RNLI have rescued a broken down fishing boat with two people on board.

It happened early on Sunday (15th September) near Robin Hood's Bay when the boat suffered machinery failure.

The all weather lifeboat was launched at 7am and reached the vessel just 25 minutes later.

The crew fitted a tow rope and brought the vessel and her passengers back to Whitby harbour, returning to station at 9am.

Mark Frankland who was Coxswain at the time said:

"Situations can change very quickly at sea.

We advise anyone out on the water to carry a means of calling for help.

Be prepared for an emergency by always wearing a life jacket and checking your equipment before you set off."
