Scarborough College To Rebuild Destroyed Cricket Pavilion

Published by Karen Liu at 10:39am 16th September 2019.

Scarborough College says their cricket pavilion will be rebuilt after it was destroyed by a fire.

The building was built over a century ago in 1911 and has been an iconic part of the school grounds.

Pupils past and present have taken to social media to share their memories of rousing team talks and enthusiastic celebrations taking place in what was an important part of Scarborough College sporting history.

The Headmaster, Mr Guy Emmett, said:

“It is a terribly sad day for Scarborough College. On Saturday, we hosted rugby matches here and as any proud Head, I was taking pictures of the games. Most featured the cricket pavilion. It was synonymous to sports here. It was a beautiful building and we all share so many happy memories. I want to thank North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Services for their relentless effort in trying to save the pavilion."

Reflecting on the future, Mr Emmett added:

“We will rebuild. We will ensure that the history of the pavilion will not be destroyed by this fire."
