Fisherman Hurt in Fall off Bridlington Harbour

Published by Matthew Pells at 9:08am 14th September 2019.

A fisherman has been airlifted to hospital after falling of Bridlington Harbour.

The man fell off the South Pier yesterday morning. Emergency services estimate he fell 5 meters on to the deck of a fishing boat, it's reported he fell down a hatch and into the bottom of the boat.

The ambulance service, Fire responders and the Yorkshire Air Ambulance all attended the scene along with the Bridlington Coastguard Rescue Team and the RNLI.

In what's been described as "a difficult extraction", it was decided that the safest way to rescue the man would be via the Bridlington RNLI inshore lifeboat which was used to take the casualty over to a more accessible part of the harbour.

The inshore lifeboat crew, headed by Helm Grant Walkington and with an Air Ambulance Doctor on board, slowly moved across the harbour towards the North Pier to waiting Coastguards and Ambulance staff before the casualty was airlifted to hospital.
