North Yorkshire Police Gets 999 Call to Ask Time

"Please think carefully before calling North Yorkshire Police".

That's the message from the force, which says about 25 per cent of the 999 calls it gets are not emergencies.

It's after we told you it received its highest ever number of calls in July, taking nearly 10,000 through the month.

It says some are more council matters, or civil issues, like neighbourhood disputes and should be directed elsewhere.

Officers say when you call police on 999 or 101 when you don't need to, you're potentially putting lives at risk as you delay them dealing with other genuine emergencies.
