Whitby Students Encouraged To Sign Up To New Sixth Form

Published by Karen Liu at 10:45am 22nd August 2019.

Students in Whitby are being encouraged to sign up to a new Sixth Form in the town.

Sir Martin Narey, Chair of the North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area programme, says it is part of a local drive to improve opportunity for young people across the Coast.

The programme aims to help young people in Scarborough, Filey and Whitby to do well in life.

It has identified the need for a successful Sixth Form in Whitby and is supporting the two Whitby schools – Caedmon and Eskdale – to work together under a single governing body and create a new Sixth Form on the Scoresby site for young people across Whitby.

The site is being transformed and from September will be exclusively for sixth formers, with a brand new library, IT space and café.

It will be an inclusive sixth form, offering a range of vocational and academic programmes, alongside careers advice and a supportive Personal Coaching system.

Parents or young people can learn more about the 6th form by emailing enquiries@sixthformwhitby.org

Sir Martin said:

“Whitby has two good secondary schools but the future of a 6th form in the town has come under threat.

For some children, studying in Scarborough or Teesside might be the right decision. But we need an excellent 6th form here in Whitby so that children have a choice.

With joint funding from both the North Yorkshire Coast Opportunity Area and North Yorkshire County Council, we’ve found half a million pounds to give Whitby young people a state of the art sixth form.

The Scoresby site is being transformed and from September will be exclusively for 6th formers; it has been designed with them in mind."
