Another Meeting in Scarborough Against BID

Another Meeting in Scarborough Against BID

Published by Jon Burke at 6:31am 14th August 2019. (Updated at 7:05am 14th August 2019)

There's another meeting tonight for companies who're opposed to the Yorkshire Coast Business Improvement District scheme.

It's being held by the Yorkshire Coast Levy Payers' Association, which objects to the project.

It sees firms with a rateable value of more than 12 thousand pounds pay into a pot for tourism improvements for five years.

The meeting's at Scarborough Bowls Centre, Peasholm Road and follows another meeting in Whitby last week.

The Association says more and more and more people are speaking up against the BID.

Scarborough member of the Association, Harry Scott, said:

"Now everybody seems to know about it, there are a lot of people coming out of the woodwork, very disgruntled about what's happened.

When I went to a meeting about 6 or 7 weeks ago, only 16 people turned up - this was prior to the levy bills being sent out and I believ that was because nobody knew anything about the levy bills, or anything to do with the BID".
