Dog Rescued After Going Over Cliff Edge In Ravenscar

Published by Karen Liu at 7:47am 22nd July 2019.

A dog has been rescued in Ravenscar after it had gone over the cliff edge.

It happened yesterday (Sunday 21st July) at around 12.55pm in the village.

Whitby Coastguard Team were called by Humber Coastguard Operations Centre to assist Ravenscar Coastguard Team.

Upon arrival at the scene, Coastguards found that a Cocker Spaniel had gone over the cliff edge from the pathway leading down to the seal colony.

The dog had fallen approximately 20 feet before coming to rest.

Rope rescue equipment was set up and a technician was lowered down the cliff to the dog and brought the animal safely back to the top.

Whitby Coastguard said:

"In this instance, the owners of the dog did exactly the right thing and called the Coastguard rather than attempting to rescue the dog and risking getting into difficulty themselves.

Remember if you or someone you see is in trouble on the sea, shore or cliffs around our coastline call 999 ask for the coastguard."
