Intoxicated Man Enters Water In Bridlington

Published by the Yorkshire Coast Radio News Team at 7:16am 22nd July 2019.

Bridlington Coastguard were called out on two occasions over the weekend.

It happened at around 7.20pm yesterday (Sunday 21st July) with the first being two people in a dinghy just off the outfall pipe on south beach.

The team arrived on scene and saw the pair fishing in the small boat which was tied to the pipe. The team communicated with them and all was OK with no cause for concern.

But minutes later, the Coastguard says they saw a man entering the water who "clearly had too much to drink" and concerns were raised.

The person started to swim and struggle so the Bridlington Inshore Lifeboat was requested to assist.

Coastguard rescue officers donned drysuits, life jackets and floating lines and entered the water to reach the man before the arrival of the lifeboat.

He was reached and refused assistance but the Coastguard Rescue Officer coaxed the person towards the shore and he made his way out of the water.

During this time the people in the dinghy had returned to the beach and suitable safety advice was given to everyone.
