Whitby Cricket Nets to Stop Balls

Whitby Cricket Nets to Stop Balls

Published by Local Democracy Reporter Carl Gavaghan at 11:04am 12th June 2019. (Updated at 11:07am 12th June 2019)

Whitby Cricket Club has applied for permission to erect an 8m high net on one of its boundaries to stop cricket balls from leaving its ground.

The club has commissioned a technical analysis to find out where cricket balls are most likely to be hit across the boundary.

The club has now applied to Scarborough Council for permission to erect an 80m by 8m net to the boundary of its pitch along the south east of the ground in Upgang Lane.

The south east boundary is the shortest in the ground at just 35m from the edge of the cricket square and leads to the car park shared with Whitby Town Football Club’s Turnbull Ground and onto Upgang Lane.

The plans are now out to consultation.
