The new leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council has been talking about his plans for the county.

Richard Burton - who is a councillor for Bridlington - was elected earlier this month.

He takes over from Stephen Parnaby - who has been in the role since the 90s.

Councillor Burton said helping residents and businesses financially is important:

"I'm very much on the economy. I think it's important that jobs, prosperity, people want housing.

They are all very important and I think that's vital going forward.

I'm very much keen on maintaining economic growth and delivering prosperity for all.

We've got a very different diverse area and it's about delivering for all our residents."

He also said new industry and jobs is also important:

"Renewables for instance and off-shore wind turbines, that's all coming.

Many of will be coming for sure in the East Riding and we'll be able to tell our story around the renewable sector and help create an opportunity for more business to thrive in our location.

So that's a new area that's coming together."
