Scarborough Air Cadet Officers To Take On 48 Hour Challenge

Published by Karen Liu at 12:08pm 24th May 2019. (Updated at 8:17am 25th May 2019)

Two Scarborough Air Cadet Officers are going to attempt to visit 28 RAF bases in just 48 hours.

Sergeant James Raw and Flying Officer John Brockbank are to drive 1,480 miles non-stop in a minibus with a maximum speed of 62 miles per hour.

They will depart from Taylor's Cafe on Scarborough's North Bay tomorrow (Saturday 25th May) and return there by midday on Sunday 26th May.

The aim is to raise over £1,000 for mental health charity Scarborough Survivors and the RAF Air Cadets. The trip was motivated by an awareness of mental health issues affecting young people.

Funds raised for the Air Cadets will go towards creating a drum corp but the team also want to raise funds for Scarborough Survivors who will put the funds towards a young-persons project in its Resource Centre at Alma Square in Scarborough.

The Air Cadets will be helping to decorate the attic space to be used for this project dedicated to 16 - 25 year olds.

The fundraiser has already received sponsorship from CMD Sports Horses and further corporate sponsorship is now being sought.

The names of all sponsors will be included on a banner to be fixed to the minibus as it goes on its travels.

Anyone who would like to offer support can email or ring Scarborough Survivors on 01723 500222.
