Yorkshire Coast BID Appeal Declared Invalid

Yorkshire Coast BID Appeal Declared Invalid

Published by Karen Liu at 2:12pm 7th May 2019. (Updated at 5:41pm 7th May 2019)

The Secretary of State has declared the appeal against the Yorkshire Coast BID as 'invalid'.

Clive Rowe-Evans, Yorkshire Coast BID Task Group Chair said:

“We are extremely pleased that after a thorough review, the Secretary of State officially declared the Appeal to be invalid.

At all times the Yorkshire Coast BID have not only followed but exceeded the industry guidelines and the regulation"

The BID said:

Following a successful ballot in November 2018, 44 out of the eligible 1044 businesses, just 4% of the total balloted, lodged an Appeal to the Secretary of State.

Confirmation that the Appeal did not achieve the 5% threshold required by the regulations to allow an appeal to proceed has been welcomed by many businesses, wanting to work with the BID to protect and promote the Yorkshire Coast.

The next steps for the BID Company is recruiting Directors that are committed to delivering the £5m Business Plan.

Sarah Ward, member of the BID Task Group said:

“Being part of the development of the BID has been incredibly rewarding.

BIDs around the UK are giving businesses a voice and making innovative changes that allow areas to regenerate and buck economic/high street trends.

I would encourage businesses to now nominate themselves for a Board position and take the BID to the next level.”

Applications for Directors will be open until the end of May and it is an opportunity for
business owners to shape the projects within the £5m Business Plan.

Anyone interested is invited to speak to the BID Team and find out how to get involved prior to
the official launch in August.

We're writing to new and old councillors to ask what became of the other 310 business elligible to vote as the Secretary of State was obviously looking at a different list. The Yorkshire Coast BID business plan clearly states 1354 businesses to raise £5.4 million....
