North Yorkshire Budget Defended

money notes

Published by Jon Burke at 12:18pm 22nd February 2019.

The leader of North Yorkshire county council says its budget protects frontline services.

Councillors agreed the finances for the next year earlier this week, as they find £26 million out of £40 million they need to save in three years.

It's meant a rise in council tax of nearly 5 per cent and cuts to pupil referral services.

Carl Les said:

"By and large, in the main, they're not actually affected. It's about the way we actuially do the business, rather than cutting the business, so we're quite comfortable that the majority of saving that we make are actually just not quite back office, but they certainly are in the way we do the work, rather than stopping doing the work itself."
