Cause Of Eastfield Fire Remains Unknown

The cause of a large fire in Eastfield in Scarborough remains unknown.

6,000 square metres of of gorse and scrubland caught fire on Friday night (15 February). Six fire engines were called to the scene from Scarborough, Filey, Robin Hoods Bay, and Pickering at around 10.00pm. 

Appliances from Malton,an all terrain vehicle from Kirkbymoorside and a water bowser from Tadcaster were also all in attendance. 

Efforts to extinguish the blaze were initially hampered by strong winds before it was brought under control and put out.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service says following investigations on Saturday, further checks will be carried out today (Monday 18 February) as hot spots remain.
