A bus strike, affecting Arriva services in Whitby, is in its final day.

Drivers that are part of the Unite Union walked out on Sunday (6 January) in a dispute over pay.

They said that those working for Arriva Durham County Ltd (which includes Whitby drivers) were the second lowest paid in the whole of the UK.

The union wanted its members to have a £1 an hour pay rise dating back from March 2018. Arriva tabled a number of concessions in their latest offer including a fairer system for back pay awards from March 2018, a 7.6% hourly pay increase over two years, reducing the time it takes drivers to hit the top rate of pay (from five years to three years), and the next pay review date confirmed as March 2020.

Union members rejected the offer. The strike finishes today (Saturday 11 January) and but there is still a reduced timetable.
