Two flood warnings have been issued for Scarborough.

The Environment Agency says they're for high tide today (Saturday 8 December) between 3pm and 7pm.

It says large waves are expected to go over sea defences on Foreshore Road between the roundabout and West Pier.

Flooding is also possible at Sandside and around the old harbour

People are advised to be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.

A spokesperson for the coastguard said:

"Please avoid the sea front areas a couple of hours either side of high water. Although the waves may make this time earlier these areas will be extremely dangerous and there will be a risk to life.

There may be a need to close the road for a time - if you have parked on Marine drive near the toll house you may not be able to get back to your car for a period over high water.

Further flood alerts have been issued right along the coast from Whitby to Filey."
