Filey MP Has Some Concerns About Economy After Brexit

Brexit discussions in the Commons are turning to the issue of the economy later.

The Chancellor is opening the third of five days of debates before MPs vote next week on whether to accept Theresa May's agreement.

Philip Hammond has already warned the economy will be badly damaged if we leave the EU without a deal.

But will Brexit have a big impact for the economy on the Yorkshire Coast?

We've been speaking to Filey's MP, Kevin Hollinrake, who said:

"It depends how we leave is the short answer.

If we leave with the Prime Minister's deal, no I don't. Things will carry on much as they are today.

If we leave with no deal, nobody quite understands exactly what that will mean.

There's lots of different concerns, lots of different forecasts but nobody really knows.

I've always maintained - despite the fact that I voted to remain - that we can survive quite happily outside the European Union.

But it will take time to adjust, particularly if we leave and go over a cliff edge.

I'm most worried about small and medium sized businesses.

If their shipments get delayed, that could have a huge impact on their cashflow which means they could go out of business."
